First Flight since re-build DAR is back, with a re-furbished forward 'fuse section, re-covered tailplane and elevators, a fresh CofA and is now insured under the Vintage Glider Club scheme. Launch performance has been enhanced by the introduction of a C of G hook and a recent weighing will now permit an increased payload. Initial test flights were completed satisfactorily by Trevor on Saturday July 8th 2006. Before the day was out Brian Cracknell demonstrated the value of the new hook by achieving a 1,700 foot launch with Trevor as self loading ballast.

The current custodians are exploring ways of making the glider available to as many of the NVGC members as possible at the lowest possible cost. The market value is perhaps £7,000, but if a more realistic local view is taken, this could be considered to be considerable less. Recent expenditure (over the past 4/5 years) suggests a syndicated valuation might be more realistically £3,000. It could even prove an investment. (Freddie Laker is reputed to have said that if you want to make a Million in the aeroplane business you need to start with ten million)

With 20 like-minded Club members, syndicate shares would initially be £150 each. Annual running costs currently amount to less that £600 or £30 each. Pete Pearson has been commissioned to build a trailer so winter storage, visiting vintage rallies and cross-country retrieves will all be a possibility. CofA inspections and routine maintenance will come for free. Major re-builds will be extra. You will need to find your own fancy dress head-gear, if required.

Whilst there will need to be a minimum qualification to fly as P1 this should not be prohibitive. Type conversion and a Silver C with greater than 200 hours will be the sort of thing required.
