It was a warm day with cloud making it very hazy when I turned up at launch point to help after a morning's toil in the office. JB suggested I could be ballast (guest) for a trip in the "Barge". Having flown with John on previously in the T21 I agreed and added serveral layers of warm clothing. My normal soaring hat was abandoned and I borrow one of the other syndicate members leather flying helmet and goggles(Thanks Trevor).
All when well and we were soon soaring, JB climbing the beast to 2000 feet, then I had a go. Sorry John, lost height, gained a little and lost it again. John's questions about "why is wind coming from the side" and "it's like a merry go round ride" prompted me to sort out the yaw and stick back pressure. Why didn't they fit a decent trim to this machine anyway???
JB was soon back at the controls but couldn't regain my lost height. We came in to land after a magnificient flight of 37mins. JB's only comment after that was I seemed to talk a lot - I think he actually said "You don't shut up".
Later he proved he could out soar me in his K8 with me in the DG300 but that's another story.
